My name is Chris and I am The Hiking Hound. I was raised and still live in Bergen County and am an avid hiker and dog lover.  In recent years I have learned how to combine my passion for hiking and my love of dogs into an opportunity to provide a service to others.  My dog, Buddy, is a mixed-breed rescue dog who I hike with on a regular basis. These hikes provide exercise and clarity of mind for both of us and it is apparent throughout our daily lives. I began receiving many compliments on Buddy’s behavior and demeanor and started providing advice and guidance to complete strangers regarding their dogs.  These types of conversations began happening more and more and eventually evolved into people asking me to take their dogs on these hikes I spoke about. And so The Hiking Hound was born. I have received such positive feedback regarding this unique service and I share some of those testimonials here on this site.  I am happy to help anyone who would like me to take their dogs on a walk or hike.  Please reach out to me, I look forward to hearing from you!

I adopted Buddy from Bonnie's Animal Kingdom in June of 2009. He was approximately 18 months old when I adopted him. Buddy is a mixed-breed with lots of personality and interesting traits.

At home Buddy is a true couch potato but once he gets on his leash and hikes the trail he has a ton of energy. The first week I had Buddy, we went on a hike to Harriman State Park (you can see a photo of him on our first hike on the home page). From that day on he has been my constant hiking buddy. I have hiked with a lot of dogs through the years and never have I been with a dog who loves the outdoors as much as Buddy does. Adopting him was one of the best decisions I have ever made – we saved each other.

I adopted Pal on July 19 2011 from B.A.R.K. at Petsmart  in Wayne New Jersey. He was four months old when I got him and he is a Beagle Border Collie mix. He has fit in very well with our group and loves to hike with Buddy and I. He was very shy and scared when I first got him due to the fact that he didn’t have much human contact. But now he is a happy healthy outgoing guy who loves to play and chase squirrels! I thought I was a one dog guy until the day I realized there is plenty of time and love to go around! My Pal and Buddy make my life fun and interesting and I am so fortunate to have been put in their lives!!
